On Sunday December 9th we had a very special Blessing day. During the month of November we collected over 1,000 winter coats to pass out in Hillside Court and Fairfield court. On Sunday we had 59 families in Hillside court receive over 600 items of clothes, including winter coats, from nine different community volunteers. In Fairfield court, 92 families received about 830 clothing items from 17 community volunteers. In addition, a family made up of a 19 year old mom and 2 year old and 2 month old shopped for furniture in the CARITAS Furniture Bank for their apartment in Fairfield Court. Afterwards a team of volunteers made their previously empty apartment full of all of the furniture the family had picked out including beds, a crib, a dresser, a couch, coffee table, tv, kitchen table, kitchen dishes, sheets, towels, blankets, and much more! We were excited to have 45 volunteers from Woodlake United Methodist Church, Second Baptist Church, The Brandermill Church, St. Marks United Methodist Church and a Girl Scout troop participate with us.
Embrace Richmond is non-profit helping non-profits, congregations and governmental agencies across the Greater Richmond Region become more asset-based in their community development efforts. We do this by providing training and coaching in Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD). ABCD builds on the gifts, talents and passions of neighborhood residents and strengthens communities from the inside out.
