Great session last night at Woodlake! Wendy shared one of her favorite asset mapping tools with participants as they focused on Shift #3 “Moving from “Needs” to “Assets”.

Wendy walked participants through the differences between individual betterment and community development, compared and contrasted informal associations to formal institutions, and provided examples of how to find other “neighbors who care” in a community. Building upon this foundation, Wendy highlighted how members of any type of organization can best deploy and collaborate. She also challenged participants to think in new ways about their role(s) in their communities with the question, “How might institutions increase care-giving capacity in ways that are not dependent on a funding source or salary?”. By the end of the session, all participants left ready to be “defenders of the small”!
